Most members will be aware that Bricket Wood Station from the 1930s until the 1960s featured in a number of films and television productions in which the station doubled as a number of locations including Euston Station. This ended in the 1960s probably because the station building was closed in 1968 and bricked up in the early 1970s after a fire.
However, once again the station building/tearoom returned to being a film set on Friday 31st October (Halloween) when it was used in the filming of a feature length film of a successful West End play called ‘Ink’.
The Trust hired out the tearoom to the film company for the day who then transformed it into a late 1960s British Rail station buffet complete with their own crockery and other period railway props. Cheryl, who runs the tearoom, also had a part in the film as an extra, being a customer for a change.
With the permission of West Midlands Trains and Network Rail, filming also took place on the platform where Bricket Wood Station was transformed into two British Rail stations. It was interesting to see the return of BR uniformed staff along with a ticket collector’s booth at the exit.
Unfortunately we are not permitted to show any pictures of the filming in the tearoom or on the station until the film is released but the one above shows the lighting equipment in the forecourt ready for filming.
The day was a success for the film company who were very pleased with the location and thought the tearoom could do more to promote itself as a film location which would revive and continue the association of Bricket Wood Station with the film industry.
